From Seeking Healing to Serving Others

For a long time, my abortion story was something I kept completely hidden.

Abortion wasn’t something people talked about. I had never heard anyone openly share their experience, and I certainly never imagined I would either.

But over time, something began to stir in my heart.

I didn’t fully understand it then, but I can see now that God was gently inviting me into something deeper—into healing, into truth, and eventually…into freedom.

In January of 2019, I set aside a week to fast and pray, asking God for clarity and direction in my life.

Just a couple of weeks later, I was sitting in a class at church when the conversation unexpectedly turned to abortion. Someone in the class mentioned a book on the topic, and I made a note to look it up later.

When I searched for that book online, another title appeared alongside it: A Surrendered Life by Pat Layton.

Something about it immediately caught my attention.

I knew the Lord was nudging me to order that book.

As I read, truth began to break through places in my heart that had been shut down for years. For the first time, I began to understand something life-changing:

God didn’t just forgive women who had experienced abortion…
He wanted to heal them.
To set them free.
To redeem their story.
To use their testimony to help others find freedom too.

At the end of the book was an invitation—an email address for women interested in joining a Surrendering the Secret Bible study.

Within days, I was signed up to start my first session.

That study changed everything for me.

I walked back into places in my story I had spent years avoiding—the pain, the shame, the grief. It wasn’t easy. There were moments that felt heavy and raw.

But it was also one of the most powerful, freeing experiences of my life.

Healing came.
Freedom came.
Jesus met me there.

Later that year, in October, I attended a Surrendering the Secret Certified Leader Training with Pat Layton. During that time, Pat and I connected—and that connection eventually led to me stepping into an administrative role within the ministry.

To serve in the very place God used to set me free…there are no words for that kind of redemption.

Today, I wear several hats within this incredible ministry. But my favorite role, by far, is something deeply personal to me:

I get to receive the emails from women who are seeking healing.

Because once upon a time…that was me.

I remember what it felt like to hit “send”—clammy hands, a racing heart, and time seeming to stand still as I waited for a response.

And now, I get to be the one who replies.

I get to be part of building a bridge—connecting her to healing, to freedom, to Jesus.

I never could have imagined that God would take something that once felt so unspeakably painful and transform it into something beautiful.

But that’s exactly what He does.

He redeems.
He restores.
He repurposes.

And here I am…walking proof.
